My name is Nishani Jayawardena, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and the founder of Nava Therapy. I am originally from Sri Lanka, now reside in the United States as a naturalized citizen.
At Nava Therapy, my paramount focus lies in guiding individuals through life's trials while fostering personal growth and well-being. My compassionate expertise enables me to create a secure and supportive environment for clients to delve into their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Embarking on this journey together, I am eager to aid you in your path to healing and self-discovery.
My journey so far
Coming from a conservative and misogynistic culture, I developed a keen eye for appreciating people's unique qualities. My life experiences led me to pursue mental health counseling, which aligns with my passion for helping others become the best versions of themselves.
I embarked on my professional journey with Psychology but later transitioned to Mental Health Counseling, which charted the course for my self-discovery and calling to be a therapist. Although conventional therapy is founded in psychology and tends to be resistant to change - which I do not agree with - I respect its origins.
Therapy should encompass more than just minimal encouragers and listening. My ultimate aim is to actively help you to link with the emotional aspects of your brains and bodies. Repurpose the skills that you are born with rather than, shaming it.
Additionally, I am an EMDR-trained therapist, and I use EMDR as an integrated model of treatment when I think it can benefit you, particularly if you are struggling with trauma, anxiety, and body awareness.
Together, we will work through discomfort while supporting your emotional brain and respecting your defence systems.
My approach incorporates meditation, movement therapy, dancing, and yoga to help you build a stronger connection with yourself. I will adapt to your needs and moods, providing energy and flexibility in our sessions. I will create a safe space for deep thought and reflection while respecting your boundaries.
At Nava Therapy, we blend Eastern practices with Western Psychology to nurture self-discovery, providing personalized counseling that empowers individuals to embrace life with fulfillment and resilience.
